Capital One University Receives Blended Learning Recognition
2004 Illuminati Award Finalist

Capital One University's blended learning excellence was recently recognized at the NETglobal 2004 conference in San Antonio. The Solutions Delivery Methodology (SDM 2.1) Training Program ranked as one of four Finalists out of 46 Illuminati Award entries in the category of Best Overall Blended Learning Program. The reason for the high ranking was the project's unique mix of SME and vendor facilitators for classroom-based training, e-learning, pre-assessments, and use of the SDM website as a performance support tool, all in support of one of IT's key imperatives.

Internal measures have also validated the overall approach and success of the learning program. Two key success criteria for SDM 2.1 Awareness training were to both reduce time-in-training and demonstrate an impact to learning. The SDM 2.1 Awareness CBT addressed both needs, reaching 2200 IT associates in a third of the time historically taken to deliver Awareness training. Also, associates were consistently able to answer nearly 9 out of 10 assessment questions correctly throughout the rollout (average score 86%).

As the release of SDM 2.1 sought to provide Tailoring Guidelines for when and how to use the methodology, so too did the training program's design seek to target training appropriate for specific job roles. Built and validated with key input from both process owners and job role owners, the SDM 2.1 training program provided training to a broad range of job roles—Project Mangers, BSAs, Designers/Developers, Tech/Ops Support, and Resource Managers. All told, average satisfaction remained consistent to our goal of 85%.

The SDM 2.1 framework was designed to improve the quality of IT deliverables, reduce costs, and provide a more consistent project management process across IT. It improves IT project management by creating a system with predictable and repeatable processes throughout the entire project life cycle. Associates involved in initiating, defining, designing, building, testing, deploying or supporting IT projects will benefit from this enhanced resource.
