For a major wireless communications company…

Problem:As this company climbed up the rankings in the Fortune 500 list, it was rapidly expanding into new markets, technologies, and product families. Its success came at a price: work became more complex, and it required more coordination. To maintain scalable growth, the company needed new skills, processes, and tools—some suitable for all levels, some tailored to project leads and above.

Solution and results: IPS proposed a curriculum teaching the skills and tools necessary to participate in—and lead—the company’s project portfolio environment. Easing complexity and aiding coordination, the program offered participants a common language, set of processes, and toolkit. Participants also gained a clear leadership path toward earning professional certifications. To date, nearly 200 employees have participated in the program, and some 50 have graduated.

For a diversified financial services provider…

Problem: Only ten years old and already a Fortune 500 company, our client needed more consistent project management process across its IT department to improve deliverable quality and reduce costs.

Solution and results: Using a custom-tailored learning approach that blended classroom-based training, synchronous e-learning, pre-assessments, and a specially built Web portal, IPS taught a new methodology that included a set of predictable and repeatable processes to use throughout the entire project life cycle. The program both reduced time-in-training and demonstrated measurable learning results—leading to its selection as one of four Illuminati Award finalists in the category of Best Overall Blended Learning Program.

For a global IT services company…

Problem: Traditionally focused on efficiently providing commodity services, our client made a strategic decision to focus on full solutions—without losing its reputation for excellence. Technical and project leaders needed a more extensive set of skills and capabilities to cope with this change in direction.

Solution and results: Based on consultations with IPS, the client created a special leadership training track for program managers. We assisted in devising a competency profile for the leadership track and in our client’s efforts to recruit, vet, evaluate, and select participants. Courses provided by IPS are helping improve managers’ savvy and skills, not only in the technical arena, but also in business management and the actual leadership of cross-functional, global teams.
